Children and Youth Environment Day in Sinimäe
About the project
The project connected a cleanup and environmental workshops near Narva-Jõesuu Youth Centre with a large family day in Sinimäe on Estonia’s Restoration of Independence Day.
Details
Two parts of one project
The project was built around two connected parts. The first part took place near Narva-Jõesuu Youth Centre and focused on environmental workshops, cleanup activity and a practical conversation about how young people can influence the environment around them.
The second part took place in Sinimäe as a family day for Estonia’s Restoration of Independence Day. Moving from a smaller environmental activity to an open celebration connected care for the environment with community atmosphere and family leisure.
Activities
Participants cleaned the area, joined environmental and creative workshops, games and family activities. The programme was designed so children and young people could learn through action rather than only explanation.
The Sinimäe family day included activities for children, young people and parents, creating a large shared event format that is rare for a smaller settlement. For local residents, it became a reason to step out of the usual routine and spend the day together.
Why it mattered
The project showed that environmental initiatives can feel close and understandable when they happen in familiar places and include families. Through practical action, participants saw that caring for the environment starts not with big slogans, but with the area near a youth centre, school or home.
Around 300 participants in the family programme and two different locations made the project a visible example of how smaller events can bring life to a local community.
